Fancy a holiday in the Dordogne? Discover this beautiful region and stay in one of our authentic gîtes!

Welcome

2023-12-08 001 001

Aux Martis is a small-scale ecological holiday domain. We are located in south-west France, on the border of the Lot-et-Garonne and Dordogne. We are surrounded by rolling hills and dense forests, by historic castles and mystical ruins. This region is known as the heart of the "Pays de Bastides". Bastides are medieval settlements and we are situated in the midst of three well-preserved and lively bastide villages: Monflanquin, Villereal and Monpazier. The Dordogne, a region renowned for its gastronomy, authentic villages, ancient caves and magnificent castles, is just a stone's throw away from us.

What kind of holiday can we offer you? Alone, with family or friends: we have smaller and larger gîtes, plus some camping pitches. The camping pitches are spacious and shaded. All gîtes are detached and are at a fair distance from each other. In summer, you can enjoy a refreshing dip in the swimming pool. Our focus is on tranquillity and respect for nature.

Come and enjoy the great weather, beautiful nature, the heritage and, of course, fine food

Facilities

At the heart of the domain lies the spacious 5-metre by 13-metre swimming pool. All our guests can enjoy a refreshing dip here from mid-May through September as well as the beautiful view of the valley. There is no traffic, so children can play in peace and safety on the field, in the woods, on the playground, visit our sheep or admire the neighbours' cows.

Sustainable tourism

We are an ecological holiday domain, which means we do our best to minimise our ecological impact.

No pesticides, no poison

In the countryside, that means: lots of little critters. Flies, mosquitoes, wasps, ants, mice, loires, etc. As long as they do not pose a danger, we do not fight them with harmful substances. We always look for natural ways to repel them and keep them out.

Buy locally

The weekly traditional markets offer a wide range of local and quality products: vegetables, fruit, meat, cheese, bread, pastries and other specialities. Not only are these markets very entertaining, you also support local traders, farmers and producers.

Green energy

During sunlight hours, our solar panels produce a lot of electricity. Therefore, we try to plan our electricity consumption as much as possible within the sunlight hours: all the boilers have a timer so they don't (re)heat at night, we ask to use the dishwashers and washing machines during the day whenever possible, etc.

Keep heat out, bring coolness in

Our gîtes do not have air conditioning. By consistently adopting a few basic hot weather advices, you can naturally keep the house cool even during the hottest periods.

Natural cleaning and care products

We are not connected to the sewage system, which means the septic tanks must be able to clean all consumed water themselves before it flows back into the ground. We therefore provide natural cleaning products in our gîtes and encourage our guests to use natural care products.

Natural mowing

We try to give biodiversity as many opportunities as possible. No harmful substances, but also: selective mowing. Only the most important parts are mowed, leaving enough valuable grassland for fauna and flora.

Sorting and recycling

Much of our waste can be recycled. By sorting correctly, we are left with a much smaller amount of non-recyclable waste. We provide several bins in the gîtes to make sorting easier.
